Spokane's Regional Transportation Summit

Each year, SRTC hosts an educational Regional Transportation Summit in October. Topics are intended to spark important and timely conversations about regional problems, state-of-the-practice solutions and national trends and opportunities. This event brings together transportation professionals, government officials, members of the business community and more to learn about how we can work together to continually improve our regional transportation system.

Past Transportation Summits

Year 3: Exploring Horizon 2050

The 2025 Summit revolved around Horizon 2050, the region’s long-range transportation plan that was being developed at the time. Keynote Speaker Adie Tomer guided the audience through national transportation trends and how they relate to the challenges and opportunities our region faces, highlighting Spokane County’s assets and the transportation challenges faced by communities across the nation. A presentation about the Horizon 2050 plan and a fireside chat with local transportation leaders followed.

Year 2: Embracing Innovation: Integrating Technology in Transportation

In 2024, the Summit transitioned into a three-speaker format with Q&A in between. Our three esteemed speakers provided insights into both current and emerging technologies, their potential benefits and challenges, and the necessary steps the Spokane region might consider to capitalize on these advancements:

  • Randy Iwasaki discussed the role of Artificial Intelligence in transportation and its various applications.
  • Daniel Lai from the City of Bellevue shared experiences and lessons learned from local smart city projects.
  • Abby Morgan, PhD explored smart mobility and the potential impact of transportation technology on human behavior.
